Where do all the boats come from?

Many of the grounded boats that I see every day, where washed up out of the bays and bayous where the owners thought they would be safe. Those I understand. What I do not understand, is where all of the boats that washed up on the front beach came from. Surely nobody tried to ride out the storm in some of these smaller yachts. Several of them have Louisiana registrations and I wonder if they came here to get out of the way of Katrina, or where they blown along the coast until they beached in Gulfport.

On a different note, I just learned that my former boss died. The family is having a service for him, but will not be able to bury him for maybe another month. Many of the cemetaries were flooded and gravesites washed away. They are trying to locate and then identify all of the bodies for re-burial and not allowing any new burials until then. My heart goes out to all the families who are waiting.
